For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield, which is now pencilled in for September 6, can’t come soon enough.
Regardless of what you want to see from the next showcase of Bethesda's venture into space or how many interstellar mods you plan to install once it arrives, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters, and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.
Currently, though, a few of the fans who’ve spent the last few months speculating and worrying about the seemingly sex-free game have got their sights set on being able to tune out its orchestral soundtrack in favour of a radio station of their choice.
What do you want to be able to jam out to as you explore the vast expanses of Starfield’s galaxy?
Their musical musings are the subject of a recent thread on the Starfield subreddit, which began with a post from user UptownHorrorReviews, who kicked things off by asking: “If (Bethesda included) intergalactic radio stations, what type of songs/genres would you want to hear?”
It didn’t take long for some fellow spacers to snatch the AUX cord and unleash their playlists, with user Electronic_Warning49 saying: “I need some space country to live out my Firefly (fantasies) and some space shanties for my pirate playthrough.”
On the other hand, user Treshcore dug out their axe and declared their desire for an intergalactic heavy metal/rock channel to tune into, citing the likes of Judas Priest’s Electric Eye, Iron Maiden’s Fear of the Dark, and Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun as fitting several different space-themed scenarios.
Meanwhile, user Casteliogne came up with a slightly more unorthodox station pitch, suggesting: “I’d love a ‘history’ radio channel that plays songs from the 50s to (the) modern day and talks about what they could have meant, making hilarious errors just like we probably do when we find things from (ancient) Rome or Egypt and try and decipher them.”
Even more out there was ConversationNew6395’s idea of all of the music being provided by: “a prog/mariachi/sea shanty/speed metal (band playing) nothing but Dean Martin covers,” while CaptainRisky_97 made the similarly bizarre but somehow genuinely real suggestion of William Shatner’s space-themed cover album, Seeking Major Tom.
