One of Starfield’s most expansive features is its shipbuilder. Not only does it allow you to build a ship tailored to your exact needs and preferences, but you can even personalise even small cosmetic details as well. One feature that helps the most with your immersion is the ability to name your ship.

How to rename ships in Starfield
Before renaming a ship in Starfield, you'll have to make sure that it is registered. Any ship you find or steal will have to be manually registered with a Ship Technician or from the ship section in the Data menu.
From either of these, navigate to your list of stolen ships and pull up the ship that you wish to register. Then, simply press the key to register your ship and pay the required fee.
The fee can be pretty steep, as it depends on the price of the ship. It's generally priced at about 85% of the ship's original value, but that amount can be well worth it for a ship you want to keep around for the long haul.

Renaming your ship in Starfield
The process to rename your ship in Starfield is as straightforward as it gets. You start again by locating and interacting with a Ship Technician. Once you’ve done this, simply follow the steps below.
- Start by selecting “I’d like to view and modify my ships.”
- Next, open the Ship Builder
- Navigate to the Flight Check menu
- Choose “Rename Ship”
After this, simply type out the desired name for your ship and press confirm.
How many times can you rename your ship in Starfield?
Luckily, players can rename their ships in Starfield as many times as they want and at no expense. However, there is a limit of 14 characters each time, so many iconic pop-culture spaceship names are sadly off the table.
However, this doesn't mean you can't choose a name for your ship that feels personal to you, making your adventures across the stars feel that much more special.
