Starfield has some amazing roleplaying elements, with players given the opportunity to realise a number of disciplines - from intergalactic thief to pacifist researcher - as they venture through the star systems.
However, with plenty of options, and unsure how Starfield's story might pan out at the beginning, many players get to the mid- or late-game and wonder if it is possible to respec their character.
Before we get into respecing, we recommend checking out how to get XP fast which will allow you access to more skill points early in the game. We also have a list of quests, for an idea of where you can get some XP.
Can you respec in Starfield?
In RPGs, respecing your character is when all the skill points you have spent on the various skills found in a game are given back to you, allowing you to spend them differently - but does such a feature exist in Starfield?
Unfortunately, there is no way to respec in Starfield. This is because there is no level cap in the game, so, eventually, you can get every skill you see in the character upgrade screen.
At this moment in time, if you want to change your skills on a pre-existing character, you can't. However, with no level cap, adding those skills you need is possible; you'll just need to grind a lot of XP.
To avoid this situation, we recommend planning out your upgrades well ahead of time, as levelling up gets increasingly more difficult the higher you go.
Fortunately, Starfield makes almost all of the core playstyles viable, so if you do find yourself hemmed in by your build, don't worry, as it won't hamper your ability to progress.
Recommended skills to get in Starfield
Here are some fantastic early-game skills in Starfield that you can obtain. Having access to these skills can help a lot during your playthrough, and you will not feel the need for a respec option.
- Stealth: Adds a stealth meter, makes you harder to detect, and increases sneak attack damage for suppressed weapons.
- Commerce: Buy items at lower prices and sell them at higher prices.
- Persuasion: Increases the success rate of persuading an NPC.
- Leadership: Increases companion affinity gains, HP, carry weight, and skill bonuses; companions can heal you when you're low on health.
- Ship Command: Increases the number of active crew members on your ship by +4/5/6/8.
Having access to these five skills can completely change your experience. The Leadership skill will grant you tons of bonus affinity gains and skill bonuses, which alleviates the need for a respec option in the game.
While Starfield does not have a respec option, we hope we were able to help you make the right choices for your build and work around the lack of the feature.
