No matter whether their platform of choice is PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo or PC, gamers usually have trouble tempering their massive expectations whenever a new showcase.

This isn’t too surprising, given that such broadcasts can offer the chance to get a fresh glimpse of a highly-anticipated title like Starfield or, in the case of Sony’s most recent transmission, Final Fantasy 16 and Marvel’s Spider Man 2.

With Summer Game Fest, the Geoff Keighley-helmed show that forms one of the most highly promoted parts of this year’s not-E3 season set to take place later today, one might expect gamers of all stripes to by overflowing with hype, but, for some on social media, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

What are you hoping to see at Summer Game Fest later today?

While the traditional threads on ResetEra and the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours designed to provide an outlet for folks to share their predictions, hopes and general feelings ahead of the show do feature plenty of comments outlining things people want to see at the showcase, a vocal contingent seem to have elected to head in with low expectations.

“I don’t expect a lot because if I remember correctly SGF hasn’t once delivered [on its pre-show] hype yet,” said user dglavimans on ResetEra and, in the same thread, Cudpug predicted that the show will consist of “one or two cool things, a lot of filler, way too much hyping and at least one technical malfunction or cringe moment.”

Meanwhile, in the Reddit thread, user TheEternalGazed mused: “I expect absolutely nothing of significance [from] this year's SGF. Maybe some updates on games we already know [about], but that's about it,” while Megaflare- was a bit less downbeat, saying “it seems like this year there's at least some potential.”

In terms of what players in both threads are most hopeful of seeing at the showcase, more info on Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and a look at Alan Wake 2’s gameplay seem to be high on the wishlist, while many look to be nervously optimistic about Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay reveal, which has already been confirmed.

2022’s edition of Summer Game Fest was headlined by The Last of Us Part 1, Street Fighter 6 and a couple of superhero titles in the form of Gotham Knights and Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
