Tekken 8 is only available on current-gen systems, but modders are working hard to bring this experience to Sony’s PlayStation Portable. Granted, this might not actually work on anyone’s PSP, but anyone who has emulated the handheld should have no problem playing this once it’s finished.

On Twitter, Dreamboum revealed that modders are looking to bring some of Tekken 8’s moves and mechanics to Tekken 6 on the PSP. While this is clearly a work-in-progress, video footage shows that they have been able to bring Jin’s Rage Art into the handheld already.

Considering how the series’ latest entry won’t be leaving current-gen systems anytime soon, it is admirable seeing modders attempt to put that game on weaker hardware. Obviously, the PSP hasn’t been a relevant system for the longest time, but the handheld still has dedicated fans in the emulation scene.

Based on the footage shown, fans shouldn’t expect the complete Tekken 8 experience on their PSP emulators anytime soon. This current-gen fighter makes good use of current-gen tech, giving fans one of the best-looking and best-playing titles in this genre. Anyone expecting the full Story Mode or Arcade Quest are out of luck, but fans can always watch them on YouTube.

Any gamer who grew up with a PSP knows that the little machine was a haven for fighting games, often giving players console quality experiences. Both Tekken 5 and Tekken 6 made their way to the system with incredible graphics and fluid gameplay, though neither came with a Story Mode. Capcom fighters were also great on the system, with Capcom making the best possible version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 on that system.

Demakes like this are a cool novelty for PC and Steam Deck owners, but this won’t be a replacement for Tekken 8. Bandai Namco’s expansive fighting game already has DLC characters coming and premium costumes fans have to pay extra for. Simply put, fans who want a modern Tekken experience will need a current-gen system.

Tekken 8 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
