HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 has cast its Abby Anderson and all we can do is hope that the people behind the scenes protect this actor. We also hope the actor isn’t too active on social media, because Abby simply existing angered toxic gamers who proceeded to ruin this franchise.

The official Max Twitter account revealed that Kaitlyn Dever from Booksmart will be playing Abby in HBO’s live-action adaptation of Sony’s hit game. Dever is a talented actress and we’re sure she’ll do a marvelous job as Abby, but we hope fans don’t have the feral reaction they did when the game came out.

For those unaware, Abby debuts in The Last of Us Part 2 and, without spoiling anything, leaves a permanent mark on the main cast. Once you’ve seen the scene, you will never look at a golf club in the same way again.

Unfortunately, Abby’s actions led to several irrational gamers bullying people involved with the game. Prominent voice actor Laura Bailey received death threats just for voicing the character. It was a bad situation and made the game discussion a truly awful thing to take part in.

Despite fans overreacting to her actions, Abby is a fascinating character, as she learns more about the world and starts building bonds with people she didn’t expect. She also arguably becomes a victim of revenge and anger, but that would be getting into spoilers of a game that’s several years old now.

Fans will be able to see for themselves what all this Abby talk is about when The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered comes out later this month. This version of the game will launch with supposedly updated visuals and a new roguelike mode that makes use of previously cut content. Fans who bought the PS4 version won’t have to buy the game again, as they just have to pay $10 for the upgrade.
