Will Meta Quest 3 Play Steam Games?

If you'd like to know if the Meta Quest 3 could play Steam games, then we've got you covered.

Here's what we think, alongside what games you could be able to play and how you would go about connecting your headset to a PC.

Will Meta Quest 3 Play Steam Games?

As things stand, we don't know. There's been no official word on any of the Meta Quest 3's feature set, and that, unfortunately, includes whether the headset could play Steam games.

Given the Quest 2 can play SteamVR games, it would make sense for this feature to be ported over onto the newer headset.

What this will allow for is players to have a larger library of games to play. This would run alongside the vast native games library for the Oculus Quest 2 that features the likes of Skyrim VR and Beat Saber.

It's also worth noting there are more games on the way for the Quest 2 with the likes of Among Us VR and Cities VR also being in the works.

What Steam Games Could We See On Meta Quest 3?

The SteamVR games library is rather big, and therefore the Quest 3 shouldn't have any limits on what titles it can play, as the Quest 2 doesn't have any restrictions on which games can be played.

The only requirement to be adhered to is that you need a powerful gaming PC to play Steam games on your Quest as your headset will need to be tethered to a PC that's running Steam. Listed below is a small selection of what games you can expect to find within the library:

  • Accounting+
  • Conquest
  • Half Life: Alyx
  • Hot Dogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades
  • I Expect You To Die 2
  • Pavlov VR
  • Superhot VR

Will Playing Steam Games On Meta Quest 3 Be Different?

It would make sense that the process for playing SteamVR titles on the Meta Quest 3 is likely to be very similar to that of the Quest 2. This, in short, involves you connecting your headset to your PC and then getting into the SteamVR library.

Connecting your Quest headset to a PC can be done both via cables (via the Oculus Link cable) or wirelessly (via Oculus Air Link), and once you've connected everything up by either plugging in relevant cables or pairing your headset, navigate into your SteamVR library and open a game.

Once you've sorted this out, it will allow your headset to be used for a more traditional VR gaming experience as a tethered headset. It would be nice to think when the Meta Quest 3 release date rolls around that we'll know for sure if you can use the headset with Steam games.
