With many long-term lovers of The Witcher 3 deciding to return to the game in order to check out last month’s free next-gen update, the streets of The Continent are bustling with more life than they’ve seen in a good while.
Those jumping back into the body of the white wolf on PC might have noticed that modders have been hard at work altering and adjusting some of the fresh content added by the update, such as its armours and medallions, to suit their own liking.
In addition to these fresh works, a lot of the uber-popular mods that you might already have in your load order have been receiving the necessary updates to work with the newest version of the game. The latest allows Geralt to bring some gunpowder-infused kick to his arsenal of weapons next time he goes shopping.
Feel like ditching your trusty crossbow for your next-gen Witcher 3 playthrough?
The mod in question is called ‘Firearms and Firearms Hip Holder Next-Gen’ and is the work of modder RickThedope, whose previous mods have switched up the visuals offered by cat potions and made some changes to the game’s combat.
This time, they’ve decided to provide next-gen updates to both fellow modder Roenaxx’s very popular ‘Firearms’ and eNoodles’ ‘Belt Holster (Firearms addon)’.
The result should be the addition of ten craftable flintlock-style pistols to your game, which will be stored in a holster on Geralt’s belt when not in use, rather than taking up the spot on his back usually reserved for a crossbow.
According to the Roenaxx’s original description, these guns aren’t supposed to transform every combat scenario into a Call of Duty-style shootout, but instead to provide an alternative means for Geralt to finish off enemies, with the need to craft ammunition helping to ensure they aren’t too overpowered.
With a number of different types of firearms and ammo included, there should also be plenty of room to experiment and find a combo that suits your specific playstyle.
