After rumours started flaring up about the Wonder Woman game being another live-service title, Warner Bros. has responded, seemingly debunking them. While we still don’t have anything new about the game, it does seem like this will be a pure single-player experience, assuming Warner Bros. can be trusted.

Releasing a statement through IGN, Warner Bros. has denied the rumours claiming that this is going to be more live-service shenanigans. Rather, this DC superhero title will have a “dynamic open-world” that also features the legendary Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor.

"Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open-world. This third-person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe, while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service," a Warner Bros. spokesperson said.

These rumours all started from a job listing for the Wonder Woman game, as one of the qualifications said “helping maintain a live software product or game.” It was easy for most to assume that this would be another live-service game that just so happens to have single-player support.

Not helping matters was the fact that Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslov said the company wanted more live-service titles with their popular IP. Since we’re already seeing live-service elements in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Mortal Kombat 1, many thought Wonder Woman was next.

Monolith, the company working on this superhero game, also made Middle Earth: Shadow of War, a sequel that was originally chock full of live-service elements. Although these features were eventually removed, finally giving fans a true single-player experience, the damage was done and they still got a ton of money from players.

Details on Monolith’s Wonder Woman title are still slim, aside from the fact that it’s using the Nemesis System from the Middle Earth games. Hopefully, we get more information during next month’s Game Awards, but we’ll have to wait and see.
