After Warzone players recently requested its developers should consider a fresh start for the battle royale, it appears that their demands are being met, much to the surprise of the community focused on the launch of Season 2.
Since releasing in 2020, Warzone has seen a range of seasonal updates coinciding with Call of Duty's annual releases but this could be a thing of the past in 2023.
According to reports, a sequel to Warzone is in development and could launch in 2023 alongside the annual release which is reportedly developed by Treyarch.
Warzone 2 2023 Release
The news comes from a report by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier which claims Activision and its developers are working on a "new iteration" of Warzone which will be a standalone title, meaning it won't be tied into any annual releases. The current version of Warzone is built into 2019's Modern Warfare and uses exactly the same engine developed by Infinity Ward.
The report also revealed that the next three Call of Duty titles will be available on PlayStation following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard on January 18, 2022.
Warzone 2 Platforms
While no official information on the title has appeared, notable leaker Tom Henderson has claimed that Warzone 2 will only be available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The leaker claims that the game won't feature any weapon integrations, meaning an entirely new arsenal will be introduced. Set to be the biggest shift in the short history of the battle royale, more information on Warzone 2 is likely to appear in the coming months.
