Fans of speedrunning can now unleash their skills again in the latest addition to the Nintendo World Championships: NES™ Edition game by Nintendo.
From September 2 to September 9, five new games will test speedrunner’s skills via the World Championship and Survival modes.
The new update adds the following game's challenges:
- Don't Go Alone (The Legend of Zelda)
- Taking Flight (Kirby's Adventure)
- Froggy Paddle (Super Mario Bros. 3)
- Balloon Bopper (Balloon Fight)
- Ridley Riddance (Metroid)
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a game developed by Nintendo based on the Nintendo World Championships esports competition.
This tournament started in 1990 and had three age-based player categories. Participants must accumulate the highest scores across different custom games made for the NES.
Winners could win prizes ranging from money and tickets to Game Boy consoles.

With over 150 challenges from 13 classic NES games, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition can be played alone as a single-player challenge, couch co-op multiplayer, and online global leaderboard ranked games.
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is available digitally and physically, but players will have to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online to enjoy the brand-new list of games and challenges.
In other Nintendo news, The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom recently showcased another brand new mechanic surrounding the game’s Still World area.
Zelda can now activate Swordfighter Mode, which lets her equip a sword and fight enemies. This sword can be recharged by collecting energy found in the Still World.
