While it’s far from the most powerful weapon in the game, Microcosm truly is one-of-a-kind. The Destiny 2 Microcosm trace rifle in The Final Shape is the first ever heavy ammo trace rifle. Not only that, but it’s also a Kinetic trace rifle. This makes finding out how to get Microcosm in Destiny 2 a worthwhile pursuit despite the weapon having a more niche use.

Microcosm isn’t the only new Exotic worth chasing down though. There are tons of Destiny 2 The Final Shape Exotics that you should have on your list, such as the return of Red Death and the Khvostov, or the Euphony raid weapon.

How to Get Microcosm in Destiny 2

Microcosm is a reward for completing the Convalescence: Budding Exotic quest in Destiny 2 The Final Shape, after beating the main campaign. This is the final quest in the Convalescence questline.

The full steps to get Microcosm require you to:

  1. Beat the Destiny 2 The Final Shape missions as Convalescence is a post-campaign quest.
  2. Completed Destined Heroes' Queen Part 1 quest step to unlock Convalescence: Rootbound, the first quest in this questline.
  3. Complete Convalescence: Rootbound.
  4. Complete Convalescence: Underbrush.
  5. Complete Convalescence: Greenery.
  6. Complete Convalescence: Budding.
  7. Claim Microcosm from Micah-10.

Thankfully, all of these quests are relatively straightforward and well-guided in-game as they teach you more about the activities available in the Pale Heart. However, the most tricky step is Convalescence: Budding.

Convalescence: Budding - Microcosm Quest

Convalescence: Budding requires you to complete Cooperative Focus missions, which are, as the name suggests, co-op versions of the campaign missions. These are challenging missions designed for groups of players, preferably a full Fireteam. So, grab your friends or group up with randoms to beat these Cooperative Focus missions and get your hands on Microcosm.

Destiny 2 Microcosm Perks

Microcosm has the following perks in Destiny 2:

  • Paracausal Beam Intrinsic Trait: Fires a beam of Kinetic light, dealing massive bonus damage to shields.
  • Paracausal Imbuement Trait: Final blows with this weapon grant Super energy. This weapon gains bonus damage once your Super expires.
  • Element: Kinetic

Microcosm was originally billed as simply being a shield-buster prior to the launch of The Final Shape. However, now that it’s in our hands, it’s evidently much more than that. While it’s not absurdly powerful, Microcosm is strong in its niche.

In builds that rely on Supers, particularly non-roaming Supers, Microcosm works wonders as it grants bonus Super energy and is subsequently powered up once your Super ends. The goal here is simple, spam Supers as often as you can to dish out massive damage with Microsom. In endgame activities like raids, it’s a good pairing for boss damage phases using the Warlock’s Well.

Destiny 2 Microcosm Catalyst

Microcosm does not currently have a Catalyst. However, one does exist in Destiny 2's game files, indicating that Microcosm will get a Catalyst in the future.

As for what it will do, it will likely focus on granting an additional effect after breaking shields, though it could be more mundane than that, such as improving the weapon’s handling.

That covers all you need to know about the Destiny 2 Microcosm Exotic trace rifle in The Final Shape expansion. Once it’s in your hands, get to grinding the Destiny 2 Overthrow activity or completing your Pathfinder for even more rewards.
