Now that it’s finally emerged from early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already surpassed a lot of expectations, having attracted a huge amount of players keen to embark on the journey to its highest levels.
Streamers have already shown off some of the fun the full version of the game has to offer, and its modding scene is already producing plenty of interesting tweaks and enhancements, including the option to play as an ex-goat.
While some players have had their experiences slightly dampened by achievement issues and the inability to edit their character’s appearance, the general verdict on the game has been extremely positive. That said, there’s one group who’ve been left dissatisfied with the endings on offer for one of its key characters.
Have you managed to reach the end of your first Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough yet?
Warning: Spoilers for the main story of Baldur’s Gate 3 lie ahead.
A member of this faction, who goes by the handle G4RRIK, has put together lengthy posts on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit and the official Larian forums calling on the studio to make some changes to how Karlach’s story plays out.
Both posts begin by stating:
This thread largely exists due to the major outcry of fans and players that has been building up over recent days, and is a credit to them and their tenacity about this topic.
That said, this thread exists hopefully to reach the eyes of Larian's directing, writing and development team, [to] express our feelings about the hand we were dealt, and extend an olive branch for potential change in the form of an updated quest, endcard, cutscene or even a statement about a more positive outlook for Karlach's ending.
G4RRIK goes on to outline a number of aspects of the potential endings on offer for the Tiefling companion that they find confusing or otherwise unsatisfactory.
“What most fans are after is just satisfaction, and a positive outlook for the character they love and have put so much time into,” they add, emphasising that they care so much about the issue because of how compelling they find the rest of Karlach’s presentation, such as her personality and voice acting.
G4RRIK also goes out of their way to praise the wider experience Baldur’s Gate 3 offers, saying: “Thank you for an amazing game outside of this issue, I cannot express that enough.”
A large number of fellow players have already commented on both posts, voicing similar opinions regarding the endings currently on offer for Karlach and repeating the campaign’s adopted slogan: “Justice For Karlach.”
