The Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially announced, which means fake leaks will make rounds online. Unsurprisingly, we’re already getting supposed “leaks” about a new Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo’s console. While we don’t doubt that a new entry in this legendary series is possible, the timing of these leaks makes them laughable.
A post on 4chan has made its way to the Gaming Leaks subreddit. As this leak concerns a beloved gaming IP, fans are interested in seeing what information turns out to be true. Even if this is all made up, which is highly possible, comparisons are always funny.
Whoever made this story wants fans to think Super Smash Bros. on Switch 2 will keep every character from Smash Ultimate. Masahiro Sakurai, the game’s Director, supposedly tried to turn this down and start from scratch, but both Nintendo and Bandai Namco fought to keep them. In turn, there will be fewer stages to compensate for all these characters and add new ones.
More believable parts of the leak are updated character designs, with Ganondorf getting a new design based on his Tears of the Kingdom appearance. Donkey Kong will also be redesigned since the character is getting a new model for the brand-new Mario Kart game. This always happens in newer Smash installments, so this would be pretty easy to believe.
Even if everything in this leak is fake, thinking about a new Smash Bros. game for Switch 2 is pretty exciting. Just thinking about the potential character reveals and trailers has us thinking about infinite possibilities. It’s going to be difficult topping some of the trailers we’ve seen for characters like Sephiroth or Simon Belmont, but Sakurai will find a way.
It will be interesting to see what a new Smash Bros. will be like for Switch 2. Until that happens, check out everything we know about Switch 2 and the launch titles we want for the system.
