When they’re not playing with drones, fiddling with their power armour or decorating their settlements, Fallout 4’s Sole Survivor can often be found fending off many different dangers as they explore The Commonwealth.

Whether it’s pre-war Chinese soldiers lurking below the soil, terrifying mutated creatures skulking around irradiated areas or imposing Brotherhood of Steel gunships patrolling the skies, the sheer range of enemies inhabiting the wasteland makes just staying alive a minor miracle.

If you’re a vault dweller who seeks out civilization at every opportunity and prefers to do battle with their words, rather than a trusty laser pistol, assault rifle or explosive launcher, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Ever wished Fallout 4’s stripped back dialogue trees were a bit more like its predecessors?

The mod in question is called ‘Roleplayer's Expanded Dialogue (RED)’ and is the work of modder ProfMajkowski. Some of their previous projects have overhauled the game’s music to make it a lot more unnerving and hidden the Sole Survivor’s supply of gun polish.

This time, with help from registrator2000’s ‘Extended Dialogue Interface’, they’ve decided to add 200 new dialogue options to your arsenal, with the aim of giving you the power to roleplay a huge range of different character archetypes more effectively.

As you might expect given that mission statement, some of these statements and quips will only be able if your character has specced into certain SPECIAL stats or has taken certain perks, with the most noteworthy instance of this being the return of New Vegas-style low intelligence dialogue if your character’s intelligence stat is lower than four.

Another feature inspired by everyone’s favourite Nevada vacation simulator are the changes the mod makes to speech checks, which now involve skills other than just charisma and have had their vanilla percentage-based system swapped out for a more traditional version that guarantees success to those who’ve invested enough in the specific skills being tested.

None of the new dialogue included in the mod is voiced, so ProfMajkowski recommends teaming it with a work like CoffeeAddictUK’s ‘Silent Protagonist’ so you don’t end up having your immersion bubble burst whenever any of the new lines crop up.

Regardless of whether your Sole Survivor is now wowing the citizens of Diamond City with their improved vocabulary, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077. You can also check out our mods of the month for February 2023.
