Fallout 4 can get a bit too easy if you’ve created the perfect character build, have a follower who soaks up all of the hits on your behalf or are able to lob an endless supply of mini-nukes at your enemies.

That said, there are a bunch of mods that can help to redress this balance in a number of different ways, including making things feel so scary your aim will be affected by shivers, having blocked melee blows still hurt and replacing all of the game’s stimpaks with Nuka Cola.

However, sometimes you might be after a change that’s a little more firearm-centric, with a new mod catering to all of those hardcore survivalists who wear their rank four gun nut perk like a badge of honour.

Do you wish Fallout 4’s guns packed a more realistic punch?

The mod in question is called ‘TRUE DAMAGE - Weapon Damage Normalized By Caliber’ and is the work of modder eclix. A lot of their previous modding work has also been focused on making Fallout 4 feel more true to life, by making combat a lot more painful and ensuring that the game's HUD won’t get in the way of your immersion.

This time, they’ve decided to make sure the ballistic weapons you’ll be firing as you take cover from lethal enemy projectiles all dish out the exact amount of damage they would in real life.

The mod does this by applying new damage values to different types of ammo and types of gun, with rifles doing a bit more damage than their pistol counterparts, “due to their higher muzzle velocities.”

On the other hand, depending upon which specific buffs you’ve enabled via registrator2000, Neanka and shadowslasher410’s ‘Mod Configuration Menu’, picking up a shotgun or sniper rifle might make you a lot more dangerous in either short or long-range battles, especially if you’ve also enabled the mod’s gun range buff.

Similarly, enabling the likes of its slower reload option or melee damage buff might be necessary if you prefer to wield a sledgehammer and want to make sure the mod doesn't give your gun-toting enemies too much of an advantage. That said, if you use energy weapons, you’re out of luck, as the mod doesn’t touch them.

Though, it does also work to overhaul the game’s damage scaling, ensuring that you shouldn’t become too much of a bullet sponge as your peak health totals increase with each level up.

In order to get the mod working as it should, you’ll first need to grab powerofthree’s ‘Spell Perk Item Distributor’ and GELUXRUM’s ‘SCOURGE - Unleveled and Standardised NPC Stats’, as well as all of their requirements.

Regardless of whether you’re now building a firing range in Sanctuary to test out your newly tweaked ballistic arsenal, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Fallout, Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077. You can also check out our mods of the month for November.
