While a lot of Fallout 4 mods are designed to bring beloved features and characters from previous games in the series to the Commonwealth, including everyone’s favourite clone and Mr House’s robotic friends, sometimes you can’t beat delving back into Fallout 3 or New Vegas for real.

After all, while the Fallout 4 New Vegas modding project looks to be coming along brilliantly, it hasn’t quite arrived in full yet.

However, if sifting through the screenshots and clips from its showcase week has you itching to dive back into Obsidian’s original game, a new mod might be just what you need to spice things up a bit.

Are you looking forward to going plane spotting during your next Fallout New Vegas playthrough?

The mod in question is called ‘Aircraft For Fallout New Vegas’ and is the work of prolific modder Ashens2014, who has lots of experience adding animations to New Vegas’ dilapidated pre-war props, having previously done the same with trains and even the rollercoaster outside of Primm’s Bison Steve Hotel.

This time, they’ve decided to bring the grounded aircraft littering the NCR stronghold of Camp McCarran back to life, ensuring that your treks through the desert will occasionally be interrupted by the bassy drone of a plane rumbling overhead, as you can see in the video below.

Whereabouts you are when this happens will depend upon which versions of the mod you’ve chosen to install, with a couple being more experimental versions which have the planes only appear over El Dorado Dry Lake, or pop up all over the map in rather chaotic fashion.

However, the version which Ashens2014 recommends is the one which uses an ESP to allow the planes to appear anywhere, and ensures they should always make the correct sounds.

Possibly the only drawback to mod is its lore-friendliness, with Ashens2014 leaving it up to you to decide which of the game’s factions are responsible for the planes, citing everyone from Mr House and the NCR to the game’s Cazadores and even Easy Pete as possible culprits.

Regardless of whether you think Easy Pete is holding out on giving you his dynamite so he can drop it onto his enemies from the sky, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Fallout, Skyrim and Elden Ring.
