Rocket Raccoon is a strategist in Marvel Rivals. While you’d rightfully expect a Strategist’s kit to focus more on the healing side of things, Rocket’s skill set is broad. From being able to run on walls, being airborne, and quickly dashing through the map to having a minigun that allows him to deal damage on a range, Rocket’s a complete package.

Unfortunately for his enemies, this lethal bullet doesn’t only heal his teammates but also comes with abilities that enhance their damage. If you’ve had the misfortune to deal with this trickster, you’re probably wondering what’s his counter. In that case, here’s a guide on how to counter Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals.

Countering Rocket Raccoon

Rocket is one of the most dynamic heroes in the game. Fundamentally a Strategist, his role mainly caters to the healing aspects. Nonetheless, his kit allows him to excel in multiple areas.

For players to learn how to counter this strategist, knowing how his abilities work is vital. For starters, his primary weapon is a machine gun that can damage enemies from a range. He can also shoot healing orbs from it, which bounce off walls or any other surface.

Secondly, he’s got the ability to deploy a beacon, allowing him to revive (and grant armor to) his teammates. Naturally, being a highly mobile character, one of Rocket Raccoon’s main advantages is his speed.

While his passive allows him to rapidly move on walls and other vertical surfaces, his jet-pack allows him to quickly dash across the map from one place to another, it has a six-second cooldown after a specified number of dashes, though. Lastly, he can also hover across the map.

Finally, Rocket’s Ultimate allows him to deploy a beacon, which enhances the damage of his allies, provided they’re within the range of the Ultimate.

After becoming aware of his skills, players need to equip mobile characters who can close the gap between themselves and Rocket. Since the latter’s fundamentally a mid-to-long-range hero, forcing him into closed gaps makes him highly prone to damage. Additionally, his low health bar also makes him suffer in case of close encounters.

How to Counter Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals?

The following list will showcase some heroes you can use to counter Rocket in Marvel Rivals.

1. Black Panther (Duelist)

Black Panther is one of the most packed heroes in Marvel Rivals. Some of his abilities are also similar to that of Rocket Raccoon, such as high mobility and the ability to move on walls. Unlike Rocket, though, Black Panther is a character focussing on dealing significant damage in a short period through close combat.

What gives Black Panther an edge against Rocket is his speed, whose base is higher than other characters in the game. This allows the Black Jaguar to quickly close the gap between him and Rocket, making it difficult for him to win. Additionally, the high mobility also allows him to counter the strategist’s escape strategies.

On the damaging side of things, Black Panther has multiple abilities. His primary attack, Vibranium Claws, allows him to deal quick melee-focussed damage on his opponents in quick succession. Additionally, his two abilities (Spirit Rend and Spinning Kick) also support this.

Another advantage to this hero is his Vibranium Marks, which pop up on every enemy that Black Panther deals damage. These marks grant him bonus health alongside a decreased cooldown on his abilities. In cases where Rocket gets the upper hand, Panther’s passive ability allows him to deal 20% more damage.

2. Hulk (Vanguard)

Hulk is a Vanguard in Marvel Rivals. From the outset, he already has an advantage against Rocket due to his high health pool, making it extremely difficult for him to take Bruce down. Additionally, Hulk has one of the best movement mechanics in the game, allowing him to quickly close gaps and leap across different locations on the map instantly.

Despite fundamentally being a melee-based character, Hulk has two abilities in his kit which make him suitable for mid-to-long-range encounters as well. The first one is Gamma Burst, a projectile that damages every opponent in a straight line. The second one is Radioactive Lockdown.

In cases where Rocket’s trying to escape Hulk, players can use the latter ability, allowing them to deploy a blast of energy. While it doesn’t deal too much damage, it’s a great way to stun enemy players near Bruce.

3. Spider-Man (Duelist)

Spider-Man is yet another Duelist in our list of counters who excel against Rocket Raccoon. While not everyone’s cup of tea (due to his difficulty) when it comes to Marvel Rivals, Spider-Man boasts insane mobility, which allows him to close the gap between himself and Rocket. Additionally, his passive allows him to crawl on walls.

From a damage perspective, Spidey’s fist-y combos combined with abilities like Amazing Combo allow him to deal significant damage in a short amount of time.

Additionally, if an enemy tries to escape from his combos, he can use Get Over Here! to reel the retreaters towards himself, due to abilities like the Web Sling, Peter’s arguably one of the most mobile characters in the game.
