The upcoming MSI MEG 271Q gaming monitor is set for release soon and marks one of the most exciting entries to date, and potentially even one of the best gaming monitors of the year.
We've got everything you need to know about when to expect it, plus what to expect from the powerhouse monitor itself.
Let's get to it.
When Is the MSI MEG 271Q Release Date?
The monitor was announced earlier in January 2022 and is assumed to be heading our way this year, however, we don't have a concrete release date from MSI just yet.
Unlike with some of the other entries from brands such as ViewSonic and Asus, there also hasn't been a mention of the quarter it will arrive in either.
The reason behind this is that many monitors from the same brands are actually being released over the year. Take the new wave of ViewSonic Elite monitors for instance, which will be trickling in over the year, starting with the XG321UG in Q1.
We'll update this section when we hear more, so stay tuned, but for now, let's take a look at what we do know about the monitor itself.
MSI MEG 271Q Specs
The MSI MEG 271Q has a few key specs that make it stand out from the crowd.
The Display
What you're getting here is a rapid IPS panel with WQHD resolution. It's a mini LED screen, which allows for deeper blacks, improved contrast ratios and high brightness.
In fact, it boasts over 500 local dimming areas, meaning that images on this monitor should look crisp with impressive contrast.
Add that to a colour coverage of 97% of the DCI-P3 range, and it's no wonder this monitor has earned its DisplayHDR 1000 certification.
Performance
As expected this monitor has a low response time of 1ms, which is not uncommon with many of the best 1440p monitors available today.
But the big feature is its refresh rate, which is a massive 300hz.
This forms part of a new standard of esports monitors, 1440p/ 360hz, which is a narrative currently being pushed by Nvidia alongside their new graphics cards.
Monitors like the Asus PG27AQN, the ViewSonic XG272G-2K, and the AOC Agon Pro all have refresh rates over 300hz and are designed with competitive gaming in mind.
The obvious advantages here come with the overall smoothness of gameplay, which is needed when playing fast-paced reflex shooters.
While there's some debate as to if 300+ Hz make a difference, for pro gamers every little bit helps.
As with many of the other new 360hz/ 1440p monitors, we're getting G-Sync Ultimate plus their Nvidia Reflex, which allows you to hunt down sources in your setup which are increasing latency.
Design
We haven't got a lot to go on, but from what we can see we think this is one of MSI's better-looking entries to date.
MSI monitors can sometimes push the 'performance' aesthetic over some of the cleaner lines seen in products from Samsung and Alienware, but the MEG 271Q's almost bezel-free design gives it some sleekness we really appreciate.
From the back, it means business and definitely looks chunky. For esports and competitive gaming, that's fine, but for home offices, it may be a little much.
But this is a gaming monitor, so we think the design matches well with the target audience.
MSI MEG 271Q Price
No price has been announced just yet, but we'll be back to update you when it does.
As usual, we'll throw a prediction into the arena and say that we're looking at around $1400+ for this monitor when it releases.
This may seem steep, but we're expecting hefty price tags this year across the best 360hz monitors and upcoming OLED displays too.
