It’s been a while since we’ve seen a brand-new Castlevania game for AAA consoles, but that might change. Rumors are claiming that Konami is working on a new entry in the iconic series which will be announced this year. Fans should take this with a pinch of salt, but much like vampires and blood, many of us are starving for a new entry in this franchise.
According to geekinout (via gagadget.com), it is claimed that a new big-budget game set in this franchise is in the works. Details on the new title are slim, but there’s speculation that Konami will hire a third-party dev to make this entry. The rumor also claims that it entered development alongside Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Delta.
While that doesn’t reveal a lot, this makes us think that the new Castlevania game could be a remake of sorts. Nothing definitive has been confirmed, but remaking one of the older titles does sound on-brand for Konami right now. Fans wouldn’t be against a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night remake, after the success of Castlevania: Nocturne on Netflix.
The last major game in this series was Lords of Shadow 2, which received a mixed reaction upon release. Critics and fans alike enjoyed the combat but thought the story was poor and hated some stealth sections. Fans can try the game out now, but we suggest they play the superior Lords of Shadow 1, even if it’s technically a God of War ripoff.
If fans want to get technical about a new Castlevania game, there was a remaster of the arcade game Haunted Castle as part of the recent Dominus Collection. Most agreed that this remaster was a pretty good game, which is saying a lot because the arcade original is hated by many.
For more Konami news, fans can check out the leaked release date for Metal Gear Delta. Elsewhere, Sonic’s fighting game career might also be revived if rumors are true.
