Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on massively overhauling the game by adding the likes of new quests, huge building projects, and interesting player homes to it, with a few even going as far as making changes like turning the province’s civil war into World War 2.
However, if you’re looking to assemble a mod list that’ll twist Bethesda’s RPG into a horror game like Resident Evil or Silent Hill, a new mod might be worth checking out.
Fancy encountering a few more ethereal beings next time you boot up Skyrim?
The mod in question is called ‘Ghosts and Souls- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE) (''undead'')’, and is the work of modder MihailMods. A lot of their other previous work has also revolved around adding new creatures to Skyrim, including some vampires from The Witcher 3 and a few equally terrifying chickens.
This time, they’ve decided to combine a couple of their very popular poltergeist and lost soul themed mods, ‘Classic Ghosts- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version) (''oblivion'')’ and ‘Mourning Souls- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version) (''dark souls'')’ into a single frightening file.
Encounterable in places like catacombs, ruins and even the Soul Cairn, these two variants of phantom have a few subtle differences that you’ll need to be aware of if you plan on converting your Dragonborn into a full-time ghost hunter.
If you run into a regular ghost, odds are it looks a lot like a normal, pale human with a pained expression etched across their face and possibly a hangman’s noose around their neck.
On the other hand, if you’ve found a mourning soul, they’ll have a slightly more jagged and ragged appearance, in addition to carrying spectral scythes that denote their status as “the personification of desolation”.
Regardless of whether your Dragonborn is now trying to find out how to call the Tamrielic version of the Ghostbusters, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding. You can also check out our mods of the month for December 2022.
