Modders have put a lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the eleven years since it was first released into the world.
A lot of these efforts have focused on making the game more immersive, with additions ranging from destination weddings to chatty carriage drivers, as well as ensuring that players can coat their swords with potions and be insulted by the Thalmor mid-combat.
Now, one modder has decided to rectify an immersion-based issue that’s been bothering some players since the game’s release, ensuring that campfires will no longer merely burn away in the middle of a monsoon.
Have you ever wanted Skyrim to periodically rain on the parades of its happy campers?
The mod in question is called ‘Rain Extinguishes Fires’, and is the work of modder SeaSparrow. A lot of their previous work has also been focused on immersion, having gotten rid of all of the silver goods from Castle Volkihar and ensured that friendly atronachs can be healed by blasting them with spells that match their element.
This time, at the request of fellow modder JaySerpa, they’ve made the game’s various campfires and braziers less indestructible, ensuring that if a freak rain shower hits a hunter’s camp, they’ll be left staring at a pile of smouldering embers.
While the main goal of the mod is to deliver this minor change in a manner that won’t mess with any of the weather-based or camping mods you might already have in your load order or affect performance, it also automatically applies itself to any extra fires such mods might have added to the workspace, ensuring you won’t have to wait for any patches.
You also don’t have to worry about Tamriel becoming a permanently drab and dingy place, with fires gradually being re-lit once the weather is favourable again.
If that isn’t quite fast enough, you can even re-ignite them yourself using a fire-based spell and put them out again with some frost magic if you don’t want to leave any evidence in your wake.
However, in order to get the mod working, you will need to grab a fair few prerequisites, with the Skyrim Script Extender, meh321’s ‘Address Library for SKSE Plugins’, plus powerofthree's ‘Tweaks’, ‘Papyrus Extender’ and ‘Base Object Swapper’ all being required.
