When they’re not destroying all of Nazeem’s furniture or running from shadows, Skyrim players tend to try and keep things as immersive as possible.
After all, what fun is defeating the likes of Alduin and the ebony warrior, managing to end Skyrim’s civil war or discovering a new location you’ve never seen before if you can’t get fully engrossed in the action?
Thankfully for those who value their roleplaying highly, a new mod will ensure that even the act of getting dressed won’t get in the way of your desire to get immersed in the life of an adventurer.
Have you ever wanted gearing up before heading out on a quest in Skyrim to be more immersive?
The mod in question is called ‘Immersive Equipping Animations’ and is the work of prolific modder TheCyclist, whose previous work has given the Dragonborn the power to whistle like Geralt of Rivia and added the ability to be roasted during musical performances to jayserpa’s ‘Skyrim's Got Talent - Improve As a Bard’.
This time, they’ve given both the player character and their followers the ability to dynamically react to armour and clothing being equipped on their person with a fitting animation, rather than simply standing there as though nothing’s changed.
As you can see in the video below, said animations cover everything from cuirasses and helmets to boots and necklaces, ensuring that things should stay immersive no matter what kind of occasion you’re dressing up for.
The mod is even safe for those who like to switch garments mid-battle, allowing your character to continue moving while they adjust their threads, that is unless you’re trying to change shoes, which will require them to stand still.
However, the animations applied to followers are a bit more experimental than those applied to the player, so it might not be wise to try and force Lydia to swap her steel armour out for ebony while she’s trying to slay a giant.
If you think you can resist that urge, you’ll need to grab the Skyrim Script Extender, plus a behaviour engine mod like Nemesis and a configuration menu mod like SKYUI in order to get TheCyclist’s mod working as intended.
Powerofthree and sasnikol’s ‘Spell Perk Item Distributor (SPID)’ is also an optional requirement if you want the animations to work for followers.
