Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.

Many have focused on changing the game by finding interesting ways to improve its combat or adding everything from fully voice-acted quests to unique player homes and fresh alchemy recipes to it, with a few even going as re-creating dungeons from other Elder Scrolls games or changing the way saves are loaded to help minimise bugs.

If you’re someone who relished getting a look at the current state of the ambitious modding project Skyblivion last month and are in the market for a new weapon to try out during your next trip to Nirn, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.

Fancy getting an early taste of Skyblivion by letting your Dragonborn wield this impressive weapon?

The mod in question is called ‘Skyblivion's Akaviri Warblade’, and is the work of modders Kazuhide3d and MaximusTheWizard. The latter has previously completely overhauled Anise’s Cabin, one of the first locations you’ll likely discover after leaving Helgen.

This time, they’ve teamed up and, with the permission of those overseeing the Skyblivion project, released its version of Oblivion’s Akaviri warblade as a standalone weapon that can be added to the arsenal of Skyrim’s dragonslayer.

As you can see in the video below, the warblade, which Kazuhide3d reveals was made during one of their short breaks from working on the main Skyblivion mod and calls: “a small content drop to thank the fans for their love and passion about our work”, is a pretty lengthy and ornately detailed two-handed weapon that’ll certainly make foes think twice about messing with you.

However, in order to get your hands on this enchanted katana, you’re going to have to work a little harder than Oblivion’s Hero of Kvatch did.

While they could just waltz into Jensine's ‘Good As New’ Merchandise in the Imperial City’s market district and buy the blade, your Dragonborn will need to pick up a new map the mod adds to Sky Haven Temple’s refectory and go on a short treasure hunt to unlock “an ancient closed-off vault” hidden away somewhere inside the Blades base.

So, get ready to play the part of medieval fantasy Indiana Jones and, if you want to know more about the Skyblivion project, which aims to recreate the entirety of TES IV in Skyrim’s engine, or apply to work on it, you can head to its website.
