Modders have put a lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the eleven years since it was first released into the world.

A lot of these efforts have focused on making the game more immersive, making additions ranging from dynamically-learning NPCs to destination weddings, as well as adding details to the province and even ensuring carriage rides are as insufferable as they would be in real life by inserting chatty drivers into the equation.

Now, though, one modder has decided to take the age-old concept of adding Star Wars-style lightsabers into the game, but make it as lore-friendly as possible, without putting too much of a dampener on the fun.

Have you ever wanted to unleash your inner Jedi in Skyrim without breaking your immersion?

The mod in question is called ‘Dwemer Tonal Energy - Twinblades’, and is the work of prolific modder rob18. Some of their previous work has given Skyrim’s UI a book-inspired makeover and also made it resemble the menus of The Witcher 3 spin-off game Gwent.

This time, inspired by mods like Vain3805 and Sulhir’s ‘The Blade Lost to Time - Severance’, they’ve decided to add some new dwarven technology into the game, in the form of twinblade energy weapons that function a lot like lightsabers, allowing you to scythe through foes with elemental fury.

The lore justification behind these swords, which come in both one and two-handed versions, comes via the Dwemer’s study of tonal architecture that can be used to manipulate reality, so as long as you’re comfortable with the more abstract aspects of Elder Scrolls lore, your immersion shouldn’t be affected.

In order to craft one of these blades, you’ll need to take a single Dwarven metal ingot and an empty common soul gem to a forge, where they can be used to create a basic tonal twinblade.

This can then be upgraded using soul gems to take on a more complex form and give out various different types of damage, from fire and shock to poison and health absorption. Though, in order to create these more lethal variants, as well as highly-powered superior and ultimate versions of the blades, your character might need to attend some extra lessons on enchanting at the College of Winterhold.

If you’re open to sitting through a few more lectures from Sergius Turrianus, you’ll first need to grab Ershin’s ‘Precision - Accurate Melee Collisions’ and exm842’s ‘ADXP I MCO ER Twinblades (SCAR Precision)’, both of which are requirements for rob18’s mod.
