Most of the hardcore Bethesda RPG fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 couldn’t wait for the chance to start digging into Starfield.

While some players will be blasting off for the first time today, most of those who paid for early access are now plenty of hours deep into their adventures through space, with lots of that time having been spent making interesting discoveries, getting up to wacky hijinks, or downloading mods.

Meanwhile, a number of interstellar explorers have been busy building the ideal spaceship to roam the cosmos aboard. If you’re still trying to put together the perfect craft to suit your tastes or play style, it’s definitely worth checking out the in-depth research of one player on Reddit.

How many hours have you spent tinkering with ships in Starfield so far?

The player in question, who goes by the username Stalviet, has decided to dedicate their time to creating “a massive [IKEA-style] room preview ship [in order] to inspect the interiors of every manufacturer’s habs and cockpits.”

Yes, they mean every single ship building block with an interior that’s available to purchase in the game, including the unique parts that can only be acquired by visiting special locations connected to each of the game’s ship-building companies; Nova, Deimos, HopeTech, Stroud-Eklund, and Taiyo.

They’ve compiled their current findings, which mainly look to just cover the habs, into an essay-length post on the Starfield subreddit. This features links to galleries of images that allow you to get a good look at the interior of each hab for yourself.

Interestingly, Stalviet has concluded that, as far as interiors are concerned there are “only three unique designs” across the five manufacturers, instead of one for each.

“Deimos and Stroud-Eklund [interiors] are identical except [for] floor colours, with Deimos being steel and Stroud being white,” they explain. “The same goes for HopeTech and Taiyo, [they’re] identical except HopeTech [habs are] dark grey/black and Taiyo [ones are] White. Nova [habs] appear to be unique.”

Towards the end of the post, Stalviet has included a bunch of advice as to specific modules they think are worth considering investing in, and guidance as to how you can get the most out of other ship parts, such as engines and reactors.

They also provide in-depth descriptions of the particular aesthetics they feel the parts of manufacturers are going for, which might help you judge whether what you're buying will mess with the overall theme and attitude of your character or play style.

So, no matter whether you’re looking to create a high-tech flying science lab or a rugged pirate vessel, you should be better equipped to do so once you’ve read the post. It might even help if you’re trying to find the perfect interior to match a ship shaped like a hotdog or Mr Burns’ car in that classic Simpsons episode.
