Most of the hardcore Bethesda RPG fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 can't wait for the release of Starfield.
Some have been passing the time until September by re-watching June’s Starfield Direct, searching for subtle details they might have originally missed, or documenting the game’s history.
Others have decided to create a tabletop RPG that’ll allow people to take an early trip into space, or kick off the process of preparing to make some Starfield mods. Meanwhile, a number have decided to offer some help to someone looking to use the game to pay tribute to a lost loved one.
Are you planning to base your Starfield character on a real-life inspiration?
In a post on the Starfield subreddit, user FunkyPunk1995 politely requested some help pay tribute to their late dad, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, by playing as him in the game.
“I would love [it] if someone who is great with character creators could help me model my player character after my father,” they said, adding: “The thought of being able to let my dad explore the galaxy like that really does warm my heart and brings me some comfort, so thank you to anyone who helps.”
Many of those who’ve since commented on the post have offered their condolences to FunkyPunk1995, having been moved by the in-depth description of how anticipation for Starfield played into their relationship with their father.
Thankfully, a number have also suggested or offered to provide solutions that could fulfil the request once the game is released. For example, a number proposed they could advise FunkyPunk1995 on some character creation slider settings that could mirror their dad’s appearance, with help from some photos of him.
A couple of users in the thread, asd8dhd and VokunKiin, have seemingly gone even further, reaching out to the poster and offering to create a custom mod for them, which would take care of the request and also include a few extra details.
It looks like the pair are still currently looking for people with knowledge of mod-making to help them out with this task, so it might be worth dropping them a message if that’s something you can provide.
