With only a day away from CES 2025 where gaming accessories company Genki is expected to share more Nintendo Switch 2 details, more Switch 2 leaks have come out of Chinese social media.

The latest of these hardware leaks focus on Switch 2's Joy-Cons, which seemingly include an optical sensor similar to those found in many computer mice. This might suggest that Nintendo is considering several unique use cases for the overhauled Joy-Con.

Leaked through a particular Chinese social media site, the Joy-Con images have much larger SL and SR buttons, along with the slots speculated to accommodate the magnetic pins for the controllers. Another noticeable addition is an optical sensor added near the SL button of the left Joy-Con.

Nintendo fans on Reddit are starting to theorize that the Joy-Cons will work as detachable mice, similar to what the Lenovo Legion Go has for its magnetic controllers. It also has visible protrusions that look like rubber feet found in gaming mice.

If this is true, then a wide variety of Nintendo and third-party titles can take advantage of this added feature. Imagine playing Splatoon or Metroid Prime on the new Nintendo Switch 2 but you have a mouse to use for aiming. This makes FPS games much more competitive and exciting.

Some fans feel that a mouse feature will not be fully utilized in a Nintendo product, while others think that having this feature will make games like Mario Maker much easier to control. Creating ridiculously dangerous and difficult levels in Mario Maker will now become easier than ever, much to the delight of many fans.

Fans also speculate that the optical sensors will be used in replacement of the popular stylus found in the Nintendo DS and 3DS. While the existing Joy-Con has been more than capable when being used as a Wii-mote, the added optical sensor feature will open more doors to accessibility in the new Nintendo Switch 2 handheld.

Whether you plan to play FPS or shooter games in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 or you'll spend more time creating the most sinister levels in Mario Maker, be sure to stay updated with the latest gaming news and stories by following Gfinity Esports.
