With many long-term lovers of The Witcher 3 deciding to return to the game in order to check out December’s next-gen update, the streets of The Continent have been bustling with more life than they’ve seen in a good while for the past couple of months.

Those jumping back into the body of the white wolf on PC might have noticed that a lot of fresh works based around the content added by the update, such as its ray-traced environments, medallions, and armours have been popping up recently.

If instead, you’re looking for fresh updates that’ll help some of your favourite established mods that’ve been out for a little while to work as intended with the next-gen version of the game, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Feel like you need to turn up the heat in your next-gen Witcher 3 playthrough?

The mod in question is called ‘The Ignition Project ReIGNIted - Igni FX Overhaul - Next-Gen’ and is the work of modder lufusol, whose previous mods have helped add more custom presets to menschfeind13’s ‘Swords on the Hip (aka Carry Your weapons as You Want)’ and ensured the breath of Skyrim’s freezing NPCs looks as detailed as possible.

This time, they’ve decided to create a next-gen version of Zwaffelengerian’s uber-popular mod ‘The Ignition Project - Igni FX Overhaul and Brutal Blood Update for Ghost Mode’, which has since been abandoned by the original author, who looks to have closed their Nexus Mods account back in 2020.

Lufusol’s mod takes just the main file of this mod, ‘Ignition - Main Igni FX’, in order to avoid using any of the work from other modders that was included in the original, and updates it to function properly with the next-gen version of the game.

As a result, it should improve the visual appearance of any bursts of flame you unleash via the igni sign, ensuring that they’ll also emit some killer smoke and leave burn marks on characters and surfaces that they come into contact with, the former of which might also be explosively dismembered upon death.

You might also notice the sign’s appearance change slightly as you advance your igni-based skills and find that Geralt looks a bit sweatier than usual after casting the fiery sign.

The mod, which gives you the choice between ‘full’ and ‘lite’ versions, still looks to have some growing pains and kinks to iron out as of right now and if you’re still playing the pre-update version of The Witcher 3, lufusol recommends that you stick with the original version of it.
