Since they finally received the massive DLC announcement they’d all been craving, Elden Ring players have all been basking in the warm glow of knowing that work on the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is definitely underway.

For those who aren’t still busy doing a celebratory dance or some detective work to try and unearth clues about the DLC, now is the perfect time to undertake an intense training regimen that’ll refresh and hone your skills in time for the expansion’s arrival.

If you’re in need of a way to spice up your boss battle prep sessions and don’t fancy trying out a first-person viewpoint, coming up with a bizarre challenge run, or dealing with randomised fog gates, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.

Think you can beat Elden Ring while upside down?

The mod in question is called ‘Upside Down Ring’ and is the work of prolific modder RainerGeis. Some of their previous projects have given you the chance to take on the game as a meme-worthy cat and transformed Flying Dragon Agheel into Thomas the Tank Engine.

This time, they’ve decided to add another chapter to a long-running saga within the FromSoft community, by turning Elden Ring’s camera upside down and giving players a chance to try and carve their way through the Lands Between from an inverted perspective.

That’s right. Got to battle a boss in order to proceed? You’ll be doing it upside down. Being ambushed by a gang of lesser foes? You’ll need to make sure you don’t dodge so much you end up feeling queasy. Trying to shuffle along a narrow ledge? Good luck telling whether or not you’re about to fall when down is up!

Thankfully, as you can see in the video above, all of the game’s text seemingly stays the right way up, meaning you won’t have to risk breaking your neck to consult any of its crafting menus.

That said, it seems that one unfortunate player has experienced an interesting issue when mounting Torrent that caused their camera to “zoom out forever and make everything look super glitchy”, so you might end up feeling worse for wear if you’ve got an aversion to travelling on foot.

If you haven’t been put off by that, you’ll need to grab Elden Ring’s ‘Mod Engine 2’ first in order to get RainerGeis’ terrifying creation up and running.

Regardless of whether you’re now trying to glue your feet to the ceiling in order to execute the world’s fastest upside-down Elden Ring speedrun, make sure to follow us for coverage of some interesting streamers and guides to Shadow of the Erdtree as soon as it arrives.
