While some GTA players are still trying to enjoy everything that Los Santos has to offer by getting up to wacky hijinks and spending all of their hard-earned cash, others are already looking forward to GTA 6.
For some, this has involved trying to predict what the next game’s map will look like, agonising over how they’ll earn back their current GTA Online fortune if it includes tax mechanics, or arguing that it shouldn’t come with a new version of GTA Online.
Now, while it seems unlikely that those who support the latter viewpoint get their way, some of their fellow criminals have been discussing an alternative means of integrating multiplayer elements into the game, with this being via online co-op.
Do you think GTA 6 could benefit from including some co-op elements?
This interesting feature idea is the topic of a recent thread on the GTA 6 subreddit, which began with a post from user Own_Counter_4585, who, likely inspired by reports that the game will feature a pair of Bonnie and Clyde-inspired protagonists, kicked things off by asking: “What do you think is the probability of GTA 6 having co-op story mode in the campaign?”
They then outlined their own idea of how this could work, suggesting that it could become an option once the game’s prologue is completed, with a pair of players working together in a single save game that’s linked to one player’s progress and missions possibly being modified to include optional extra objectives or enemies for those playing as a duo.
Their fellow GTA stans seemed rather split on whether this would be a positive addition to the game, even if most were able to agree that it isn't a likely inclusion, with user Packie_McReary_ taking a break from hanging out with GTA 4’s Niko Bellic to summarise the chances of co-op happening as: “probably very slim,” but adding that it “would be cool.”
However, others weren’t as enthusiastic about it, with user hazaphet musing: “Isn't that what Online is for? I wouldn't like the single-player experience to be transformed into another multiplayer, but it might just be me,” and i_am_do_reddit_now adding: “The problem with this is either you don't have single player at all, or you do have it, but every mission feels cheaply adjusted to try and shove in co-op at every chance.”
Meanwhile, user DisciplineHead1102 suggested a possible middle ground option that could alleviate any concerns about missions being too co-op centric, saying that they’d prefer any co-op to be limited to freeroam.
Regardless of how you’d feel if GTA 6 were to end up containing co-op elements, make sure to follow us for more GTA Online updates as new vehicles and more arrive.
