Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on changing the game by adding cool gear, challenging boss battles, and majestic player homes to it, with a few even going as far as giving the Dragonborn the chance to help Bethethor’s sister take over his shop or wield some spells inspired by the Eye of Magnus.
If you’re in the mood to head off on a fresh adventure to a spooky ruin or happen to be a big fan of the Elder Scrolls Online, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.
Fancy delving into a memorable dungeon from the Elder Scrolls Online re-created in Skyrim?
The mod in question is called ‘Morthal Barrow’, and is the latest work of modder Penrutet. Their sole previous project brought ESO’s Taarengrav to fourth era Tamriel as a recently unearthed ruin that you can explore.
This time, they’ve decided to give the same treatment to Morthal Barrow, which exists as an unmarked location in Skyrim, but can’t be entered and certainly doesn’t live up to the version of it encountered during ESO’s ‘Danger in the Holds’ quest.
Inspired by this incarnation, Penrutet has built a fully-fledged and lore-friendly dungeon at this location the the vanilla game, which serves as the staging ground for “a short voiced quest harkening back to the Greymoor chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online and its ‘Dark Heart of Skyrim’ storyline”.
During this adventure, which comes with a recommended level of at least ten, you’ll have the chance to battle some new enemy variants, add a fresh spell to your arsenal and take on “two uniquely scripted boss fights”, with a trio of artefacts boasting one-of-a-kind enchantments also being up for grabs.
To kick off the quest, dubbed ‘No Rest for the Wicked’, you’ll have to visit the barrow and find a journal, which’ll set you off on the path to finding the spell you’ll need to infiltrate the ruin’s crypt section.
Once you’ve worked your way through the mod’s mission, the barrow will automatically change into “ a ‘regular’ radiant quest enabled Nordic crypt, though Penrutet recommends you grab underthesky and z65536’s ‘Encounter Zones Unlocked SE’ to ensure its enemies continue to scale with your character.
