Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.

Many have focused on changing the game by adding unique weapons, incredibly powerful spells, and interesting new locations to it. A few have even gone as far as creating NPCs that’ll dynamically move into Tamriel's abandoned houses, or fixing bugs that’ve been plaguing people for years.

If you’re in search of a fresh quest to head off on in Tamriel while you wait for Starfield or Skyblivion to arrive, a new Skyrim mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Fancy learning more about the mysterious forces and entities that created the Elder Scrolls universe?

The mod in question is called ‘Calling the Watchmaker - Lovecraftian Inspired Quest,’ and is the work of modders nimwraith and Jake MacDonald, also known as BigMacHornet.

Some of the former’s previous projects have brought a few new talkative dragons to the game and helped re-populate a shattered version of its world.

The duo have teamed up to create a fully-voiced quest which “discusses and explores the extremely interesting lore of how the Elder Scrolls universe was created,” giving you a chance to learn more about entities like Mundus, Aetherius and Sithis.

This adventure revolves around a number of encounters with a scholar named Dreynos, who boasts over 100 lines of dialogue all delivered with audible relish by MacDonald, as you can hear in the showcase clip below.

In order to start delving into the mysteries of how Tamriel and Nirn came to be, which are usually best explained by lengthy YouTube videos with bibliographies the length of your average novella, you’ll need to head to see Dreynos at his cabin.

You’ll find it a short walk from Markarth, nestled among the hills of The Reach, so watch out for Forsworn if you plan on doing some lore-heavy reading on the way. After all, you don’t want to seem like too much of a simpleton when Dreynos starts asking you for your take on Lorkhan’s deception of the et'Ada.
