Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.

Many have focused on changing the game by adding new questlines, fresh dungeons, and plenty of cheese wheels to it, with a few even going as far as giving the Dragonborn the ability to summon NPCs by yelling their names or wield spells modelled after Geralt of Rivia’s Witcher signs.

If you’re someone who’s more interested in taking a break from adventuring to find a cosy cavern, cabin or castle to make your Dragonborn’s home and decorate as you see fit, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.

Looking for somewhere new to hide out after turning in some heist missions in Skyrim’s crime capital?

The mod in question is called ‘Fallside Manor - Riften Cottage’, and is the latest work of modder LavenderCandle. Their sole previous project, which looks to have marked their first ever foray into making mods, gave necromancers an imposing new lair near Winterhold to move into.

For their second mod, they’ve chosen to create another player home, this time aimed at those who don’t necessarily choose to live with a gang of zombified thralls.

Located in the forest just east of Riften, having been erected in the spot that’s occupied by the unmarked location of Tumbledown Tower in the vanilla game, Fallside Manor is designed to form a sort of cosy middle ground between the vibes of Whiterun’s Breezehome and the Creation Club’s Shadowfoot Sanctum.

As you can see in the array of pictures on the mod’s page, the cabin and its grounds contain pretty much all of the creature comforts a lone adventurer could need, including crafting apparatus and plenty of storage for all of your gear.

Of particular note seems to be the alchemy garden you’ll find outside which, in addition to housing plenty of plants and mushrooms for you to pick, is inhabited by a collection of respawning critters, including torchbugs, butterflies, and bees.

Those affiliated with a certain group of scallywags from the Ratway will also be glad to know that the cottage itself contains a special place to display your guild armour, so you don’t have to risk explaining its presence in your inventory to a nosy guard, if you’re caught where you shouldn’t be while casing the location of your next big heist.

Regardless of whether your Dragonborn is now relaxing in this cottage after returning from a successful crime spree, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding. You can also check out our mods of the month for April 2023.
