For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield can’t come soon enough.
Regardless of how you feel about the prospects of Bethesda's venture into space, what you think its opening line might be or whether you like what it looks like in Far Cry 5, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters, and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.
For folks already planning out their playthroughs as they eagerly await their invitation aboard an interstellar transport, it seems as though the conundrum of where to build their first base among the stars has recently been receiving a lot of thought.
Where are you planning to erect your first outpost in Starfield?
The thread containing their space settlement-based discussion on the Starfield subreddit began with a post from user Jonathan-Earl. They kicked things off by asking: “What planet would you try to scout out for your first base?” and added that they’re hoping to find: “some sort of icy/rocky moon with a light atmosphere orbiting a ringed planet.”
A number of their fellow extraterrestrial enthusiasts also had pretty concrete ideas of the interstellar locales they’d be interested in moving into, with user renboy2 saying: “Something with more than one moon and a really alien looking skybox and surface, I really want my first outpost to be as foreign as possible.”
Similarly, user Ok_Abroad6381 revealed: “(I want) a small remote planet that has mountains and waterfalls. (I) want to have some nice (scenery) around my base,” and MarVell1967 gave away their plan to start an intergalactic zoo, saying: “I love animals so wherever I can find the most diverse ecosystems.”
Meanwhile, Junior061989 reasoned: “Whichever planet that is going to give me a good combination of some rare resource nodes and easy gravity jump access to the other major systems.”
On the other hand, some users weren’t interested in pleasant vistas or practical features, with SilentThunder-00 declaring of their dream planet: “(It’ll have) zero atmosphere, (be) far away from the system's star. (It’ll be) rocky and nearly pitch dark. No one will dare steal my loot there.”
