Dune Awakening is an open-world MMO with a planned 2025 release date. Developer Funcom has confirmed that it’ll be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with PC being the first platform to receive it next year.
However, Funcom confirmed in an interview that releasing the game on Xbox Series S is currently a challenge.
Xbox Series S is the cheaper and weaker of the two Xbox Series consoles, and optimizing Dune Awakening on a low-spec system is harder than making it look stunning using high-end systems.
The game will utilize Unreal Engine 5, similar to how Black Myth: Wukong used the engine. Unreal Engine 5 offers dynamic global illumination and real-time raytracing, which uses a notable amount of hardware resources.
Considering that the Xbox Series S is the entry-level model for the Xbox Series, it may have some difficulty handling Dune: Awakening, which poses a challenge to the developer. Funcom also mentioned that they want to make sure that the game will perform well, even on lower-end machines.
Players can experience Arakis and its spice trade in the upcoming MMO. From choosing their character classes and infiltrating bandit camps to creating guilds and navigating the desert using crafted vehicles, Dune Awakening is a promising MMO that has a lot to offer to MMO fans.
Dune Awakening is currently undergoing testing, with more beta tests coming in the future. Interested players can always sign up for the beta through Dune: Awakening’s website, and they may have to wait for their invitation confirmation to participate in beta tests.
There are limited invites to participate in the game’s beta tests, but Funcom confirmed that it will increase the invites as Dune: Awakening approaches its release date.
