When they’re not chatting to random NPCs, decorating their settlements or laughing at a joke told by a robotic clown, Fallout 4’s Sole Survivor can often be found fending off the many dangers of The Commonwealth.
Whether it’s terrifying mutated creatures skulking around irradiated areas, fearsome raider bosses looking for their next victim or imposing Brotherhood of Steel gunships patrolling the skies, the sheer range of enemies inhabiting the wasteland makes just staying alive a minor miracle.
If you’re a vault dweller who wants a bit of extra protection while they blast and zap their way through hordes of angry adversaries, a new mod might be worth adding to your arsenal.
Feel like you need a bit of extra protection on hand as you explore Fallout 4’s wasteland?
The mod in question is called ‘SIP - Shield Integration Project’ and is the work of modder Ethnet. Some of their previous projects have overhauled the sounds made by the game’s melee weapons and brought a bunch of terrifying new feral ghoul variants to it.
This time, with help from jarari’s ‘Shield Framework’, they’ve brought an array of eight lore-friendly shields to The Commonwealth, which can be used to block all laser fire and any bullets that don’t do enough damage to break through, though they currently struggle against melee attacks.
As you can see in the showcase video above, in order to wield one of these helpful bulwarks, you’ll have to holster whatever offensive weapons you might be using, making them ideally suited for urgent defensive stands and pushing forward through tight dungeon sections that don’t provide much cover.
In order to get your hands on your own protective screen, you can seek out a merchant, hunt down any of the enemy faction troops who’ll now be equipped with their group’s shield or visit a chemistry station, where two versions will be available to craft.
Ethnet has also included a guide regarding how to effectively battle shield-bearing enemies in the mod’s description, so be sure to check that out if you find yourself suddenly struggling to come out on top in factional fights after installing the mod.
Regardless of whether your Sole Survivor listening to a barrage of ordinance bounce off their new toy as they slowly advance towards a machine gun-packing raider, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077.
