When they’re not tinkering with their power armour, trying on quirky glasses or checking for updates on Fallout London, Fallout 4 players can often be found searching for new weapons to try out.

After all, when you’re constantly heading off on interesting quests to dangerous areas filled with mutated creatures and bloodthirsty raiders you’ll have to blast or bash your way through in order to earn valuable loot, you can never be too well-armed.

If your vault dweller prefers to take down their enemies or hunt their prey using simple and effective implements, rather than complex futuristic firearms, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.

Fancy trying to take down a Fog Crawler with one of these next time you visit Far Harbor in Fallout 4?

The mod in question is called ‘Spear Rifles - Trapper And CoA Weapon and Far Harbor Expansion’ and is the work of modder TheProxyGod. Some of their previous projects have brought gear tainted by the Sierra Madre’s infamous cloud to Fallout New Vegas and revamped the afflicted from Skyrim’s Peryite quest.

This time, they’ve had a go at creating a weapon ideal for “fighting the horrors that come from the waters” of Far Harbor. Dubbed the ‘Spear Rifle’, this ramshackle-looking and heavily-customisable gun is “based upon the near-ubiquitous Pipe Rifle, but specifically made to act as a powerful melee option.”

As such, it boasts “considerable ‘bashing’ damage with (its) bayonet, making the (Basher) perk viable for more than just miniguns”, as well as some versatility thanks to the fact it’s also a bolt-action style gun that can be used to snipe enemies for afar to weaken them, before you charge in for a melee assault.

If that sounds like an armament that would fit your character’s preferred fighting style, you’ll need to head to Far Harbor, where you can either buy one from a “strange merchant outside of the settlement of Far Harbor” or hunt down a couple of new NPC variants also included in the mod.

The first of these is a new kind of stealth-oriented Trapper, dubbed Privateers, and the second is a fresh kind of Child of Atom, called Priests, who you’ll find guarding The Nucleus.

There are also seven unique variants scattered across the island, if you fancy a bit of a treasure hunt.

Meanwhile, if you’re after something less primitive to wield, you might want to check out another freshly released mod, WarMocK’s ‘Minutemen Arsenal’, which contains a bunch of interesting new guns and changes to existing weapons used by Preston Garvey’s faction.
