As you might expect from a player base that’s produced mods which give you the chance to ride around on a Deathclaw named Shreddy or send the Sole Survivor on a Legend of Zelda-themed adventure, the Fallout community is home to some really cool folks.
A few of these vault dwellers have recently managed to use their talents to help raise money for charity, either by teaming up to create a massive mod during a single mammoth streaming session or hosting a Pride parade through the streets of Fallout 76’s Appalachia.
Meanwhile, some simply excel in finding interesting new ways to make playing Fallout more interesting, with the run one streamer’s currently taking on being a prime example of what adding a simple limitation can do to make your playthrough feel fresh.
Ever tried to play through Fallout 4 without ever leaving the roads?
The Twitch and YouTube personality in question, Joov, has previously gotten up to a bunch of wacky hijinks in Skyrim thanks to some audience-submitted quests and spent 24 hours playing Fallout 4’s toughest survival mod, a run which saw them rack up over 200 deaths.
Having recovered from that bottom kicking, they’ve recently returned to The Commonwealth in order to take on a run through the game based around the simple rule that their character could never set foot beyond the network of highways and streets that criss-crosses most of the map, a challenge that they took on in Skyrim early last year.
At the start of the run’s first stream, they acknowledged that the limitation would mean that they tragically wouldn’t be able to rescue Preston Garvey and save every settlement in the game, instead revealing that their first goal was to reach Hangman’s Alley, an on-road location upon which they could build a base of operations.
By the end of the opening session, they’d done exactly that as well as travelling a fair distance, with Dogmeat at their side. Since then, they’ve spent close to 19 hours wandering the game’s boulevards and avenues, with the run’s latest five-hour stream seeing them take on the Automatron DLC and hit level 18.
They also attempted to turn their base at Hangman’s Alley into the commerce capital of The Commonwealth, even amassing the humongous junk supplies necessary to build a Mac and Cheese-producing machine.
Given that Joov has admitted the run is “one of, if not [their] all-time favourite” Fallout 4 challenge runs they’ve done, odds are that whenever the next instalment comes out, it’s going to be worth a watch.
